Presenting the first post in a series of posts about regional dances and dance crazes, entitled “Yo girl, you dance?”
The Jerk or Jerkin’ is a dance hailing from Los Angeles that first came onto the scene in 2009. It has influences from West Coast hip hop and the Hyphy movement from California’s Bay Area. More on that later. Jerkin’ is associated with a new direction that hip hop is moving toward. People who do The Jerk usually wear skinny jeans, hi-tops, and brightly colored clothing.
Jerkin’ consists of 4 steps: The Jerk, The Reject, The Dip, and The Pin Drop. Hope to see you showing off your moves on Yongfu Lu this weekend!
