What do you get when a GIF and GRAFFITI have a baby?……. a GIFITTI. I know, I know. Bad joke. The new child of street art you see here was created by UK-based artist and designer, INSA. He paints over a wall several times. Photographs each stage. Then assembles those photos into GIFs. Sounds simple in theory but is definitely not in practice. If you need some proof, watch this time-lapse of the making of an INSA gif-itti piece.
“The beauty of INSA’s GIF-ITI is that it only truly lives when viewed online, where these days most street art ends up being viewed, and it exaggerates the ephemeral nature of graffiti as each layer is painted instantly over the last. Mixing retro internet technology and labour intensive painting, INSA creates slices of infinite un-reality, cutting edge art for the tumblr generation.” – INSA website
This piece in particular was done in collaboration with Israeli street artist UNGA. To check out more of INSA‘s trippy GIF-ITTI, that makes you feel a little insane in a good way, go here.
