– Shanghai’s number one spot for feasting your eyes – is presenting a special guest performance this weekend: celebrated Australian experimental film maker Dirk de Bruyn
will be showing his latest feature length film Telescope
on September 2nd.
is a unique combination of Super 8 film and digital video shots compiled over a period of 20 years. The film explores themes of identity, culture and nostalgia through animation, mixed media, archival footage and features an original soundtrack. Presenting the emptied suburban backyard as an emblem of White Australia and the continued invisibility of Australia’s indigenous population, this film diverges from the psychedelic expanded cinema performance
we saw from de Bruyn last year, showing a more introspective side to his work.
An internationally acclaimed experimental film maker, Dirk de Bruyn has been making experimental, documentary and animation films and videos for over 30 years and is considered one of the pioneers of expanded cinema and experimental film.
