DAFF 2014 // ARTIST PROFILE // LU YANG
As one of the most controversial of the new generation of artists in China, and described as China’s ‘New Thing’, Lu Yang has definitely grabbed our attention.
Despite her young age, Lu Yang’s work is most probably as stunning as her seniors. Her obsession with all that’s biological, medical and Buddhist, makes her work stand out among her peers. ‘PEDANT, CRUEL, AND MAD’.
Her theme for the #AllAroundUs campaign is called Cancer Cell, the pathogen of cancer that grows rapidly while disrupting the normal tissue and is hard to eliminate. It brings people pain and death. From Lu Yang’s point of view, however, it evolved into lovely cancer baby cartoon characters in the form of 3D printing technology, animation, and so on. It may look scientific and rational yet is unrealistic, and that is the true beauty of her work.
We’re excited to announce that Lu Yang will also be joining us at DAFF Spring 2014. Without giving too much away, you can expect video installations, suspended sculpture and find her working within the Artist Studio’s area.
Be sure to check out her links below and be ready for some exciting work at DAFF!
